GIVE A LITTLE: It's the time of year when everyone can show generosity for the less fortunate. Here are a couple of ideas if you're heading out this week:

Firesign Entertainment Group, a concert promotion company founded by South Bay musician Kristina Sablan and EMT/guitarist Darren Anderson, is linking its concert Thursday at the Little Fox Theater in Redwood City with a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

The 7 p.m. concert features Sablan and Anderson, as well as Miena Yoo, Tiffany Joy and a folk-blues group. Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 at the door, and donation bins will be on hand for non-perishable food items.

Firesign Entertainment Group was founded by San Jose-based singer-songwriter Kristina Sablan and local musician Darren Anderson. The company was founded out of Sablan and Anderson's awareness of the necessity to bring exposure and awareness to both great musicians and great humanitarian-based charities in the immediate Bay Area. "We were very excited about this event, and plan to do more partnering with the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Future. We chose to work with them because we believe in the outstanding work they do for children," notes Anderson. "With help from corporate sponsors such as Dean Markley Strings, who was very generous and instrumental in making the event possible, we are able to bring our vision to light."

Listening to Kristina sing and her writing is like a very deeply spiritual experience. What she eminates as a musical artist is beyond, way beyond what you are used to hearing. Guitarist Darren Anderson, whom accompanied her was stupendous as well.

(Although Firesign Entertainment Group does not endorse the Blue Rock Shoot, or any of it's affiliates, the following article was written during a time when Firesign was booking exclusively for the Blue Rock Shoot)

The Blue Rock Shoot has long been receptive to acoustic music (it was the site of Vienna Teng's first open mics before she hit big) and recently the Shoot received a major overhaul.
The Blue Rock is experiencing renewed vigor and with the help of Firesign, and is attracting some top folk/bluegrass/jazz talent. Due to the intimate size of the Blue Rock, crowds have been small but passionate.
Anderson had played Blue Rock Shoot many years ago and fell in love with its rustic décor and size. "It's a beautiful place," he says. "You walk in and walk through to the back and you find yourself three stories above ground. You're playing among the oaks."

A Benefit for the American Red Cross, presented by Firesign Entertainment

'Bay Area Singer ~ Songwriter Showcase'
Saturday April 2nd from 12noon - 9:30pm
at the Blue Rock Shoot 14523 Big Basin Way Saratoga, CA

Come and enjoy a day / evening of some of the best misicians from all over the Bay Area as they perform to raise money for the American Red Cross Santa Clara Chapter Disaster Relief. Eight different 'headliners', all in the same show spanning 9 1/2 hours!

The show is on a donation only basis, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the American Red Cross Santa Clara chapter. Represenatives from the Red Cross will be present at this event, helping to raise public awareness and funds for their cause. Come out and enjoy some great music, great food, great atmosphere, and support the efforts of the American Red Cross!
